Mindfulness is a mental technique that involves focusing attention on thoughts, emotions and perceptions in a conscious, non-judgmental way. It has its origins in Buddhism. Mindfulness is a skill that allows us to observe and disengage from repetitive, negative, or obsessive thinking. The degree to which we are able to choose which thoughts and feelings to give importance effects our ability to live fully in each moment.
Psychodynamic Theory is based on the premise that our actions and experiences are largely shaped by our relationships in infancy and childhood; we frequently repeat patterns we developed in early life. The goal of psychodynamic therapy is to resolve current symptoms by looking at how childhood experiences may be unconsciously influencing thoughts and actions in the present.
